ECO4 Grant
ECO4 is the latest iteration of the UK's Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, which has been running since 2013.
Covering the period from April 2022 till March 2026,
ECO4 focuses on improving the energy efficiency of the least efficient homes in the UK, specifically those with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or lower.
The scheme provides funding for various energy-saving measures, including
-
home insulation
-
green heating systems
-
boiler upgrades
This Scheme offers often at little to no cost for eligible households.
ECO4 is particularly targeted at vulnerable and low-income households, aiming to reduce fuel poverty and support the government's broader commitment to enhance energy efficiency across all UK housing by 2035.
Eligibility for ECO4
To qualify for the ECO4 scheme, applicants must live in social housing or private housing and receive one of the following benefits:
-
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
-
Income-related Employment & Support Allowance
-
Income Support
-
Universal Credit
-
Child Tax Credit
-
Working Tax Credit
-
Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit)
-
Housing Benefit
Additionally, homeowners must have properties with an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G
GBIS
The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), also known as ECO+, aims to improve the energy efficiency of homes in Great Britain by offering insulation upgrades.
This initiative, backed by a £1 billion investment, is set to benefit around 300,000 households by the end of March 2026.
The scheme helps reduce heating bills by providing free or subsidized insulation measures such as
-
cavity wall insulation
-
loft insulation,
-
solid wall insulation
-
underfloor insulation
Eligibility for GIBIS:
* To be eligible, homes must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D to G and
* fall within specific Council Tax bands (A-D in England and A-E in Scotland and Wales).
The scheme targets both low-income households and general groups, including those who claim various state benefits or live in energy-inefficient properties
Homeowners and tenants can benefit from these energy efficiency improvements, but tenants need landlord permission.
The process involves an assessment by the energy supplier to determine the most suitable insulation measures, and the installation costs may be fully or partially covered depending on the specific circumstances.
LA Flex
Local Authority Eligibility Flexibility (LA Flex) is part of the government’s ECO scheme and is designed to help people across the UK who are living in fuel poverty to avoid having a cold home. Even if you aren’t receiving means tested benefits, you could still qualify for help and support towards the cost of adding loft, underfloor and cavity wall insulation, along with other energy efficiency improvements.
LAD funding
The LAD scheme was set up to raise the energy efficiency of low-income and low energy performance homes, including off grid properties.
If you own or live in private rented accommodation with an energy efficiency rating of D,E,F or G and have a total household income of £30,000 or less, you could qualify for funding to help with new boilers, insulation and other products which can improve the EPC rating of your property.
